This month, we began by expanding the definition of telehealth in rural communities — moving beyond video visits to highlight four proven approaches: secure messaging, remote patient monitoring (RPM), community telehealth access points, and community paramedicine. Together, these models extend care into the daily lives of rural patients.

We then turned to the human side of transformation with the Switch framework, offering nine practical tactics to influence the behaviors, habits, and motivations that ultimately determine whether RHTP initiatives succeed.

Building on that foundation, we introduced the ADKAR® framework as both a roadmap and diagnostic tool — helping leaders identify which of the five essential conditions for change may be missing when implementation stalls.

Finally, we applied Covey’s 7 Habits to RHTP transformation, focusing on preparation as the first critical step. The message: effective leaders don’t wait for resistance — they anticipate it and design for adoption from the very beginning.

Rural Telehealth: Beyond Video Visits

Rural hospitals and health systems planning their RHTP telehealth investments often default to video visits — but the opportunity is much broader than that. This article explores four proven approaches — secure messaging, Remote Patient Monitoring, community telehealth access points, and community paramedicine — that extend care into the spaces where rural patients actually live.

Why Your RHTP Transformation May Fail — And How to SWITCH It Up

Most RHTP implementation plans are built for the rational mind — covering timelines, workflows, and technology in careful detail. This article introduces the Switch framework and its nine practical tactics for moving the hearts, minds, and habits of the clinicians, staff, and patients whose buy-in determines whether transformation actually takes hold.

Skip a Step, Fail the Change: RHTP Success with ADKAR®

Most RHTP implementation plans address systems, processes, and technology — but overlook the five human conditions that determine whether change actually takes hold. This article introduces the ADKAR® framework as both a roadmap for guiding clinicians, staff, and patients through change and a diagnostic tool for pinpointing exactly which missing element is causing an implementation to stall.

7 Proven Habits for Effectively Managing RHTP Transformation — 1: Preparation

Effective change leaders don’t just react to resistance — they anticipate it, plan for it, and address it before it hardens. This article applies the first three of Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People to RHTP transformation, offering practical guidance on how to prepare the ground for change before the first meeting, the first demo, or the first training session.
